Why shaped shutters exist
Many UK homes — especially Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco properties — have windows that are anything but rectangular. Arched fanlights, porthole windows, gable-end triangles, and angled dormers all present a challenge for standard window treatments. Shaped shutters are the answer: every panel is templated on-site and built to match the exact contours of your opening.
No off-the-shelf blind or curtain can do this. Shaped shutters turn an awkward window into a design feature.
The templating process
A surveyor creates a precise template of the window using specialist tools. This template goes to the factory where the frame and panels are cut to match. The louvres may be fixed (in tight curves) or operable (in wider arches) depending on the geometry.
For standard rectangular windows elsewhere in the same room, you can pair shaped shutters with full height shutters for a cohesive look.
Materials and colours
Shaped shutters are available in hardwood, composite, and Paulownia. Composite is popular for its stability — it will not expand or contract in curved frames. All can be colour-matched to your existing joinery.
